The Snowiest Soccer Game

Matt is a rather hard person to buy presents for. He is as practical as they come and doesn't ever want me to spend money on him. But I found a great present for his birthday - tickets to the World Cup qualifier between the United States and Costa Rica. He would never pass up a chance to watch the United States National team play. Especially in a World Cup Qualifying match. Matt also has a fondness for the Ticos so this was a perfect fit. I have pretty much secured my spot as his favorite wife if plural marriage ever comes back. I bought the tickets way back in November knowing the game would be in late March. The weather in March is always unpredictable. It is usually Colorado's snowiest month and boy did it snow tonight! We knew is was supposed to start snowing early in the afternoon and get worse as the night went on so we came prepared. Coats, hats, blankets and more blankets. We were ready. The first half actually resembled a soccer game and the United States managed to score a goal. The second half was a whole different story! All during halftime there were snowplows and tons of staff armed with snow shovels trying to clear the field. But the snow just kept falling. At one point we thought they were going to stop the game, but they ended up allowing it to continue. It didn't look a thing like soccer though. The ball didn't roll, the players didn't run at the ball very hard for fear of slipping and those shovel-wielding men tried to clear around the box anytime the ball was on the other side of the field. It was kind of like a wet, white circus. We had a great time and enjoyed seeing the US get a win.

I think we still need the stroller

Today Rex was feeling older and more mature (or just plain stubborn) so he kindly asked (demanded) if he could forgo the stroller and just walk along next to me as we went to pick up the kids from school. I left good and early so that we had plenty of time for exploring and stopping to look at everything every made. We made it to the school and Rex and Cameron ran to the playground to play until I found the other kids. Boy did Rex like that playground! It was nearly impossible to get him to leave, and we couldn't stay because I had to leave to take Nina to ballet soon. I coaxed and bribed and threatened, but in the end I had to pick him up and remove him from the school. After we got across the street he promised he would walk next to me, but it all became too much for the little guy and he needed some time to gather his thoughts.
At least that is what it looks like on the surface. He is actually really wanting to pick up that chewed piece of gum on the ground in front of him and pop it in his mouth and is hoping that I will just walk away so he can do it. Gross. I picked him up and carried him home. We won't be walking without a stroller for a long time.

Date Night

Matt and I have been trying to be better about having date nights. We are counting this as a date:
I think it was perfect. And for journaling purposes, we have also started to take Sunday walks together leaving the kids at home. Donovan will be turning 12 in a few months and we will be able to leave him with the kids more frequently. But for now, we are giving him some opportunities to practice while we take walks around our neighborhood.

Soaking up the sun

Today we are loving the weather and spending as much time as we can outside. Donovan and Howie have started soccer again and instead of just dropping them off at practice and returning to pick them up, we decided to stay at the park and play. After all, it won't be 63 degrees again for a little while. It is actually supposed to get all cold an snowy tomorrow. So today we are playing in our shorts and dresses and t-shirts and feeling happy that we get to enjoy some beautiful spring weather before winter makes another visit.

Matt is cool in a weird way

I've always been logical, and reasonable, and level-headed, and all those other things that make me right when I say that Matt is cool in a weird way. I think the same thing about geckos. When Howie got his gecko, I wasn't super happy about it. Mostly because I think they are creepy. And their tank takes up space on his dresser that I would rather leave empty. It makes for a cleaner looking room in my opinion. Then when Matt suffered from an addiction to looking on craigslist for geckos and then buying them, it didn't help my feelings toward those little reptiles. He bought 4 more than way. But after some time, I have to say that they are kind of cool. I won't ever touch one, but they are cool in their own strange way. And since Matt likes them, that makes him cool in his own strange way as well. That, and he does stuff like this:
